Khuli Chana Gets Nominated for an International Award

The MetroFM Music Awards nominee has made the top six shortlist for best international act at the Black Canadian Awards.
The winner will be announced on March 1, the same day as the MetroFM awards.
“This all happened so quickly. One day, I saw a tweet where someone said they heard a Khuli Chana song on a Canadian radio station. Then two weeks later, I got news of the nomination. Doors are really opening for me,” said Chana (real name Khulane Morule).

North West Premier Thandi Modise is campaigning for votes to get the three-time South African Music Awards (Sama) winner nominated for the global award.
“Mama Thandi has been awesome. From the first time I won a Sama, when she invited me for breakfast, to being a strong pillar of support through my recent dramas.
“She’s always there to celebrate with us when North West artists do extraordinary stuff, which is great. Because for a long time, we’ve felt our hard work was not being appreciated,” he said.

About missing the MetroFM awards, Chana said: “It’s sad that I’m going to give the Metros a miss. But this Canadian nomination is paving the way for my big break. I’ve been working hard at carving out an international career for myself. In the last few months, I’ve toured with Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar. I had a successful Sleepwalker collaboration with the Parlotones. It has widened my audience. I’m in hustle mode now and need to try cracking it overseas.”

Chana is in production for a live double-disc DVD with new material.
“Apart from new songs on the DVD, I’m not releasing an album any time soon. I’m going to milk my last albums until I feel that people have heard enough of my songs,” joked Chana.
Born in Mmabatho Unit 2 in Mahikeng, Chana is a product of the local Mmabana talent show, where he won in the best rap and best male artist categories. He was later made brand ambassador of the show.

Uhuru is signed to Kalawa Jazmee Records. They released their second album ‘Our Father’ last year and worked with artists including Oskido, Professor and McKenzie.

Count Down to the Metro FM 13th Awards

On the16th January 2014, the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) ‘s largest commercial radio station, announced the nominees for the 13th METRO FM Music Awards.
The awards which will be hosted by the Kwa-Zulu Natal Provincial Government, City Of Durban and BP South Africa, will be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Conference Centre (ICC), in Durban on the 01st of March 2014

Y Tjutjutja Boys (UHURU)

METRO FM Station Manager, Mr. Martin Vilakazi said “We are excited by the calibre of finalists for this year’s edition of the awards, which will also be celebrating and recognizing musicians who have contributed to the growth of the industry since the dawn of democracy 20 years ago. We urge the public to vote vigorously if they want their favorite musician or group to walk away with a coveted METRO FM Music Award trophy”. This year the famous trophy has been given a make-over that embraces the look and feel, and revolution of the METRO FM Music Awards.

Artists and DJ’s all over South Africa have been campaigning non-stop  , getting their fans to vote .

You’d be surprised by the things musicians do to win an award. Some vote for themselves more than 100 times , they give family airtime to vote for them . some host events and entrance is proof that you’ve voted 10-20 times. And yet i thought , The fans should vote based on how good your music is .
But anyways its a Tough competition this year especially in the House music categories , with new Comers like Heavy K and Uhuru making big waves , I have to say these guys have made afrotainment look like they no longer in the game.
But the final verdict will be made in Durban on the 1st March 2014.

Kwesta ‘s Open Letter to 5FM

The rapper, whose real name is Senzo Vilakazi, early in February took to his Twitter account to lament his opinion that 5FM only supports certain artists within the local music scene, while conveniently overlooking others. His tweet caused a heated social media debate and made many waves, so much so that the matter was later discussed on youth channel, ‘V-Entertainment’, during an interview with 5FM DJ/producer Catherine Grenfell.

In his lengthy letter to 5FM, Kwesta explains that he decided to write a letter, because the “problem with twitter though is that you have a 140 characters with which to bring your point across to an audience that might not get the full scope of your argument [sic]“.

Posted via the Kwesta Dakar Facebook account and entitled ‘The Black Youth of South Africa Also Want The Power of 5FM’, the rapper says that, while there are people within 5FM fighting for more diverse playlisting, “what disappoints me is the sense I get that there is a unhealthy and seemingly malicious force that is resisting change and thus denying 5FM to black masses”.
In the letter, Kwesta laments the fact that 5FM is very quick to play the new singles of certain SA artists, while others have to fight tooth and nail to get his music played. To read the  Kwesta ‘s Open letter to 5FM
