Ushun Wenkabi

by Big Zulu

Big Zulu Unleashes New Album, Ushun Wenkabi

The 14 track project is a fully fledged album with lots of meat and soul. His style of rap has always been lyrically dense with lots of metaphors and plenty of wordplay.  Ushun Wenkabi carries along with it a very raw element that is not watered down in any way, shape or form. He features a number of other artists including Musiholiq, Zakwe, MarazA among many others.

The title track, Ushun Wenkabi, is quite refreshing and laid back. He features the vocals of Anzo who amplify the Maskandi influences which in turn sets the pace for the entire project. Isala Kutshelwa featuring Imfez’emnyama follows this same sound scope and sees Big Zulu showcase his expert storytelling.

The rest of the album sounds, at times disjointed like it was rushed but at other times engaging. Big Zulu shows us, through joints like Home, Nam’Angaz Nje and Dear Nhlupheko that he still has the X factor.

The album is not easy to digest if you are not into punchline raps. The language is also a barrier and to people who cannot even read isiZulu; they may not even get past the song titles. However, if you enjoy good music with strong content, then you will certainly enjoy Ushun Wenkabi.
