Who is Riaad Moosa

Riaad Moosa is an award winning comedian, presenter and actor. He also happens to be a qualified medical doctor as well.

His early Life and Education

Riaad was born in Grassy Park in the Western Cape and went to South Peninsula High School. He comes from a family of medical people with his sister being a doctor , his father an orthopaedic surgeon and mother a general practioner. Moosa also grew up wanted to do medicine.

After completing high school , he went to study medicine at the university of Cape Town medical school. In 2001 , He graduated with a medical degree and qualified as a medical doctor. Riaad worked about 3 years as a medical doctor before taking comedy full time.

His Career

He started doing stand-up comedy when he was still in varsity doing his fourth year. And despite being a medical doctor , he has now become a full time comedian because that’s what he is passionate about.

Moosa started performing at the Cape Comedy Collective’s free Comedy Lab workshops, and just two months later, he was the winner of the “One City, Many Comics Talent Competition”.

Riaad Moosa has performed in a lot of festivals including the Alex Jay 5FM Comedy Jams , Sprite Soul Comedy , Real concerts ‘s Winston king size comedy show and more

He is one of the best comedians in South Africa right now and has awards to prove this. In 2011 , he was awarded the comics choice award at the 1st annual S.A Comic Choice awards. In 2013 He won best actor at the South African Film and Television awards for his role in ‘Material’.

Beyond his comedian abilities , Riaad is also an outstanding actor , having appeared in ‘Crazy Monkey Straight Outta Benoni’ and also in the sequel ‘Footskating’.

In 2012, Moosa featured in the comedy film Material, playing a young man who wants to be a comedian but his father disapproves.
