Who is DJ Tira?

DJ Tira, Real name Mthokozi Khathi is one of the biggest DJ, Music producer and record label owner in South Africa. He was born and raised in Kwa Hlabisa in KwaZulu Natal.

Where it all Started

Tira ‘s career took off after he won the Smirnoff South Africa DJ Knock out competition around 2000. After winning the competition, he got exposed to a wider audience and his brand gained more fans. He also won a trip to play in Ibiza which was a big achievement.

This achievement led to him getting an opportunity to work with industry legends such as Glen lewis. Glen Lewis later initiated the collaboration between DJ Tira and the late DJ Kabzela, on their project ‘Real Makoya’. This project further grew his audience on a national scale.

Meeting DJ Sox and starting Durban ‘s Finest

In the mid 2000, he teamed up with fellow Durban DJ, DJ Sox to form a group titled ‘Durban ‘s Finest’. Durban ‘s Finest released multiple albums which really gave DJ Tira the true fame he needed. Durban’s Finest went on to be the greatest group, they were the ones who kickstarted the durban music industry with hits such as Woz’e Durban featuring Professor and Tzozo.

In 2008, DJ Tira went on to release his solo project, Eza Se Afro vol.1, which featured the hit song ‘Won’t let go’. Makoya Bearing has gone on release a lot of hit songs in his career.
