Tortured Soul has astounded audiences globally with performances top in top clubs such as Fabric, Cargo, and the Jazz Cafe in London to 15,000 plus crowds at the Montreal Jazz Festival, headlining Southport Weekender and have also appeared at the Big Chill festival, while their recorded oeuvre pushes the genre boundaries of soul, dance, and pop. From their now-classic early singles such as ‘I Might Do Something Wrong’, ‘How’s Your Life’, ’Fall In Love’ to their highly-lauded albums ‘Introducing’ and ‘Did You Miss Me’, Tortured Soul’s style is both an echo of the past and a challenge to the future, combining elements of old soul and funk with a modern dancefloor sensibility. They have been dubbed the undisputed worldwide leaders in live soulful house music. Their productions have received remix treatment from such luminaries as Osunlade, DJ Spinna, Alix Alvarez, Quentin Harris and Dimitri from Paris among others. In 2010 JKriv departed the band to pursue his own musical adventures and was replaced by Jordan Scannella on bass. Life must be the most precious gift ever given to humanity, followed of course by this music we all so love! Our gentle brother Culoe De Song, born Culolethu Zulu is 23 today!
This Durban born DJ/Producer is one of the few with very successful careers at such a tender age. His music screams maturity, growth and all things you probably wouldn’t expect from someone of his age. Anyway they do say age is just a number. It is then no wonder he is as esteemed an artist as he is.
His latest Single My Sunshine just came out right on time as he celebrates yet another year of blessings and beauty. Culoe’s album Exodus is due for release in October with incredible collaborations from artists like Thandiswa Mazwai, Shota, Moneoa, Carl Thomas and many others.
His first leg of birthday celebrations kicked off at Sway last Friday where he played a one-on-one set with Soulistic Music boss Black Coffee. He is celebrating again in Kwazulu Natal, keep your eyes fixed on his twitter page for more updates.
We wish you Culoe a blessed birthday. May you grow and see many more. Keep shining and continue making beautiful music
