In an unexpected and unprecedented move, talented rhymer Zubz has released his fourth studio album, completely free for his online audience. Titled Dragon Lion_FullCircle, this offering is a diverse collection of songs with featured artists from around the continent.
In true pan African style, the album features, among others, M.Anifest from Ghana, Tehn Diamond, Chi and Melly Mel from Zimbabwe, Olufemi from Nigeria, Jah Seed, Maxhoba, Si-Anne, Melissa Allison and Khethi from South Africa. Production of the music was largely done through online collaborations with music from Snaz in Toronto, Canada, Sinestro in Cape Town, South Africa, and Simba Tagz in Harare, Zimbabwe, which is partly why Zubz decided to make this an online project. Snaz’s production credits include Drake, Busta Rhymes, French Montana, raekwon, DMX while Simba Tagz has produced music for Skwatta Kamp, Naima McLean, F-Eezy and a host of artists across Southern Africa.
“We recorded all the songs in 2012, the Chinese year of the dragon, and coincidentally I was born in the year of the Dragon and I’m a Leo, hence Dragon Lion. When I started as a rap artist officially in 2003, I released a mixtape absolutely free which I gave away to my fans, so me doing this again means I have come full circle.”
After a 3 year hiatus from solo projects, it comes as no surprise that this album has been received with much appreciation from his fans and has already garnered thousands of downloads. For Zubz, DragonLion_FullCircle marks the beginning of the next decade of musical expression through his independent imprint, Griot Music. “mio article”
