Lunched on 10th May 2014, by Sport & Recreation Minister, Fikile Mbalula in partnership with Brutal Fruit, the Brutal Fruit Netball Cup has witnessed 9 provinces battling it out for the championship tittle. The semi-professional league, a first of its kind in Africa, promised a spectacular final, headlined by the Brutal Fruit Celebrity Challenge, with South African celebrities, taking center court to the benefit of POWA (People Opposing Women Abuse).
This weekend saw some of our favourite TV stars battling it out for a good course at the Brutal Fruit Netball Cup Celebrity Challenge. For the not-to-be-missed game, the celebrity teams, Lavascious Lemons took on the Cheeky Cranberries, supported by the National All Star Netball.
The Brutal Fruit Netball Cup is a catalyst for change for women in sports, offering them an opportunity to strengthen their skill, while becoming role models and true ambassadors of the nation. Brutal Fruit is confident that the sponsorship of the Netball Premier League will drive radical change in women’s sports in South Africa and greater equity in the sports industry as a whole. One of the reasons behind Brutal Fruit’s decision to get involved in the league is to ensure that the face of the sporting hero can also be a heroine, affirming women as credible role models in the sporting fraternity.
