KENNY KUNENE

Kenny Kunene 1
28/08/2014 by DJs Pro Blog

Kenny Kunene is a South African businessman, entrepreneur and politician best known for owning the ZAR club franchise and for his appreciation of sushi, leading him to be dubbed “The Sushi King” or “Mr. Sushi”.

Kunene attended Vista University and became an English teacher. He later turned to crime, however, and was imprisoned from 1997 to 2003 after being convicted of running a ponzi scheme.

While in prison, he often organised parties among the inmates to build goodwill among his fellow inmates. After he was released he began marketing the work of former bank robber Gayton McKenzie who had since became a motivational speaker.

Kunene and McKenzie then invested in a seafood distribution business and became business partners in the club industry.

In 2011 Kunene was the subject of the e.tv reality series So What, which documents the behind-the-scenes experiences of his personal and business life. A second season premiered in March 2012.

In 2014 he was the second ever South African celebrity to be “roasted” in the television special The Comedy Central Roast of Kenny Kunene.
